Antimicrobial Treatment

An antimicrobial treatment is a product applied to a cleaned surface to reduce mold, bacteria, or other microorganisms that could otherwise regrow. Restoration crews apply it after they remove visible mold and dry the area, not as a substitute for removal and drying. EPA guidance is clear that treating a surface without fixing the underlying moisture problem does not solve the mold problem, because the mold is likely to return.
