Flood Cut

A flood cut is the removal of drywall in a horizontal line a set distance above the highest point the water reached, to take out material that wicked up moisture even above the visible water line. Crews use a flood cut instead of drying the drywall in place when the wall was exposed to contaminated water or when the drywall has already begun to break down. It also opens the wall cavity so the crew can check and dry the framing and insulation behind it.
