Mitigation vs Reconstruction

Mitigation is the work done to stop a loss from getting worse and to remove the immediate hazard, such as extracting water, drying a structure, or removing damaged and contaminated material. Reconstruction is the work done afterward to rebuild what was removed or repaired, such as new drywall, flooring, or cabinetry. The two phases are billed and scheduled separately, and a mitigation contractor does not always perform the reconstruction work.
