A refrigerant dehumidifier pulls moist air across a cold coil, where water condenses into a collection tank or drain line, similar to how an air conditioner removes humidity. It works best in warmer, more humid conditions common in most home water losses. A desiccant dehumidifier instead pulls air through a material that chemically absorbs moisture, and it keeps working well in cold temperatures or very dry air where a refrigerant unit loses efficiency.
